The Board of Directors of the Lethbridge & District Music & Speech Arts Festival Society are excited to announce the 2022 Festival will be occurring Monday, March 28 through to Saturday, April 9, 2022. The 2022 Festival will be delivered in an in-person format. The Board of Directors continues to monitor the pandemic environment and is prepared to adjust the festival format in the best interest of the festival participants, audience, and stakeholders.

“We know how important it is for our music and speech arts students to return to a live, in-person festival. While we are carefully following the various COVID protocols, we feel it is important for the mental health and wellbeing of our students, of all ages, to be participating in a manner that is meaningful to their development as musicians and speech artists. The Festival has survived 90 years and we look forward to producing the 91st iteration of the Music & Speech Arts Festival in March.” Sandy Brunelle, Chair of the Lethbridge & District Music & Speech Arts Festival Society explains. “We heard loud and clear from our educators in the community that while the virtual format was appreciated and necessary in 2021, there is a strong desire by those involved to return to in-person events for the 2022 festival.”

The Festival will be following the Restriction Exemption Program with all staff, board, volunteers and audience members. Please refer to the Government of Alberta COVID website for more information. Participants aged 17 and younger are not required to show proof of vaccination.

We would like to reassure the community that we are taking the health and safety of all stakeholders seriously. In addition to following the Restriction Exemption Program, there will be enhanced sanitization, mandatory masking, and physical distancing requirements. Masking is mandatory for performers except where it may impede performance. Audiences at performance venues may be limited based on the current March COVID situation and will be announced in the weeks leading up to the Festival start date.

Registration is now open and has been extended until 11:59 pm on Friday, February 18, 2022. We encourage all musicians and speech artists, of any age and ability, to register and participate in the Lethbridge & District Music & Speech Arts Festival Society in 2022. To register, visit

We would like to assure participants that in the event of a government-mandated shutdown or cancellation of the festival, all registrants will receive a full refund.
